A real haven of peace, the small village of Montels lies on the outskirts of the Capestang lagoon and offers magnificent views on the site.

The Capestang lagoon

This former lake, now dried up, gave the village its name (Capestang meaning head of the lake) and also brought prosperity to the village through its salt marshes. Today the land is privately owned and used for hunting in the season. Many species of birds can be found there: egrets, teals, spoon-bills, herons and flamingos.
