Along the canal du Midi
By boat :
The canal du Midi passes through Capestang. This portion of the canal is called the Grand Bief or Long Reach and is the longest lock-free section of the canal du Midi.
It is therefore navigable almost all year round.
There are short periods (always during the winter), when the canal is closed for maintenance. V.N.F. (Voies navigables de France), is in charge of administration and maintenance of the canal du Midi.
Upstream, the nearest lock is at Argens.
Downstream, the nearest are those of Fonsérannes in Béziers. Consult the VNF website for more information.
By bike :
Along the tow path beside the canal. There are several maps of the canal available which enable you to plan your journey from Toulouse to Agde.
