Different ways to travel

What are the different options for sailing on the canal?

Houseboats without a licence, which can be hired and sailed freely for a full week or a short week.

B&B barges, for a stay with a difference. Come with fully-equipped bedrooms. Mini cruises are sometimes available.

Hotel barges, offer cruises lasting several days along the canal. Full board or half board available. Various on-board services depending on the barge: bike hire, guided tours of the region, Jacuzzis, massages, etc.

Small boats without a licence which can be hired for an hour, half day or a full day. Electric boats or motor boats available according to the duration of hire and number of passengers.

Sightseeing boats, for guided tours of the Canal du Midi.

You can also sail along the canal by canoe or kayak and even in a rowing boat (in the mid-season to avoid over-crowding). There is even an annual rowing rally in August, from Toulouse to Béziers.

Note that barges can be sailed at a maximum speed of 8km/hr.

Other ways of travelling along the Canal du Midi.

You can use the waterway to travel between Toulouse and Sète via any means of water transport - canoes, kayaks, rowing boats, paddle boards, etc.

By bike, the towpath runs for 240km and allows you to enjoy the fresh breeze of the Canal du Midi and admire the spectacular countryside it covers. Expert travel agencies can help you plan your journey and offer all-inclusive packages.
